BECOME A PURPLE HOUSE
The Little Purple House seeks to expand its network to address some of the cumulative, negative impacts of caregiving through relaxed and worry-free respite stays. Your potential Purple House should be a relaxing, home-like environment suitable for 1 or 2 adults and available for stays between 2-4 nights.
If you are considering donating time at your vacation rental, bed & breakfast, resort, or hotel, please CONTACT US using the form below. Be sure to provide the location, a brief description (or website, if possible) as well as approximate time of year your property would be available.
Honor a loved one with your gift
Dedicate the time you donate in honor of someone you know— a caregiver, someone who is battling disease, a warrior in whatever capacity. Although we cannot yet offer a tax credit to those chosing to donate days at their property, we can provide you with material to share with your regular vacation guests to let them know of your generosity. It is a wonderful way to pay it forward and honor your loved one.
About Caregiving
Research has shown that most people struggle mentally, socially, and financially when they become the primary caregiver for an ill loved one. Their own physical health is also likely to decline from the experience. The Little Purple House seeks to expand its network to address some of the cumulative, negative impacts of caregiving through relaxed and worry-free respite stays. Respite Visit FAQ
Why are respite visits only for 1 or 2 people? Our respite visits are designed a caregiver and a companion, if they choose. The reason for this is because we want to ensure the guest of honor truly has an opportuniy to relax, reflect, and recharge. Nurturers by nature, that is often easier said than done. Liming our no-cost respite stays to a maximum of 2 guests helps ensure that the time aways truly is a break from looking after others.
Why are respite visits between 2 and 4 nights? Planning a getaway can be tricky, especially for a caregiver. We create the space for individuals to hit the “pause” button, but without the added worry of trying to coordinate a week or more of disrupting their schedules. Small vacations can aslo be better at alleviating stress than longer ones.
How do I know if my property is a good fit for respite visits? The aim of these special visits is fairly obvious; respite. By definition, that means: “A short period of rest or relief from something difficult or unpleasant.” Your venue is an appropriate respite spot if it is in quiet surroundings, comfortably furnished, and provides a calm, cozy, and inviting vibe for guests. Linens should be available, beds should be made-up, coffee and paper products provided, and whenever possible, a few added perks like fresh flowers or a welcome snack basket. Basically, think of the most stressful time in your life, and then think about what you would want to walk into if you had the chance to getaway for a few days. It doesn’t need to be a 5-star, ocean front resort (although we certainly wouldn’t turn that down!) it needs to be clean, welcoming and ready to go for someone who is trying to mend a weary heart.
